Which Usenet Provider Offers the Best Value?

We’re often asked our opinion on which Usenet providers offer the best value.  While it would be easy to point users to our Editors Choice list we always follow up first and ask for more information.  As our response would differ based on what the user is looking for in a Usenet service.  For pure Usenet we really like UNS and Astraweb.  Yet when it comes to the best Usenet value neither provider would be at the top of our list.

For us the question of who offers the best Usenet value goes beyond newsgroup access.  That wasn’t always the case but now some leading providers are offering bundled services (newsreaders, Usenet search, online storage, VPN, etc.) along with unlimited Usenet access for less than $10 a month.  While we highly recommend both UNS and Astraweb these other services offer more value-added features along with newsgroup access.

Best Usenet value

Let’s take a look at some of the best Usenet values and the free add-on features offered by each provider.

Usenet Celebrates 1,400 Days Binary Retention

This week several of our favorite Usenet providers are crossing 1,400 days of binary retention.  As services including UseNetServer, Newshosting, NewsDemon and Astraweb cross 1,400 days and continue to grow daily.  We celebrate the continued increase of retention and other innovations helping Usenet grow.  Just a few years ago we were discussing retention in terms of days.  Now we’re nearing four years of binary retention!

Usenet fans now have access to over three and a half years of binary newsgroup posts.  At 1,400 days you can access newsgroup posts from 3 years and 10 months ago.  As 1,400 days ago was August of 2008.  Back then the highest retention to be found was 240 days, which works out to around 8 months.  Now we can all explore over 46 months of Usenet posts for a fraction of the 2008 price of newsgroup access.

The quality and value offered by Usenet providers has also progressed since 2008.  Back then services offered unlimited Usenet for $20-$30 a month.  Fast forward to 2012 and the price is half that much.  Not only has the price dropped significantly.  Users now enjoy free extras.  Including faster speeds and additional features like newsreaders, Usenet search and online storage.  All for under $10 a month.

We look forward to celebrating again in 100 days as Usenet hits 1,500 days of binary retention.  Surpassing 4 years of retention in the meantime.  Until then continue enjoying the best Usenet has to offer.  Visit Newsgroup Reviews to learn more about Usenet. Just How Much Usenet Does $10 Buy?

We recently joined in on a forum discussion in regards to the current price of Usenet accounts.  As many top newsgroup services offer unlimited access for around $10 to $12 a month.  You still have services like Easynews and Giganews that offer premium plans in the $30 range but most providers have settled in around $10 to $12. A price point that excites a lot of Usenet fans.  Just how much Usenet does $10 buy these days?

If you haven’t shopped for Usenet in awhile you’ll be happily surprised by the current pricing and innovations.  For $10 a month you’ll find fast, reliable access.  Better yet you’ll find high retention and unlimited downloads for that price.  Along with a number of free extras like newsreaders, Usenet search and online storage.

We’ll highlight a few of our favorite deals in a moment but we also encourage you to visit our Usenet providers section where you can compare over 100 newsgroup services.  While not all are created equal you’ll find  a number of fine options to choose from.  Along with reviews and guides to help you get started.

Here’s a quick look at our favorite Usenet deals.  All for $10 a month or less with lots free extras.

Newshosting – Unlimited Usenet + Client for $9.99/mo. or $99/yr.

The Newshosting $9.99 special marks their lowest price ever.  With unlimited Usenet downloads and a free premium newsreader for $9.99 a month or $99 a year.  Expect fast, reliable downloads, uncapped speeds, free newsreader and Usenet search engine.  All for just $9.99 a month or $99 a year for our visitors.  Visit the Newshosting special page to sign up and save!

UseNetServer – Unlimited Usenet + Search for $10/mo. or $95/yr.

The UseNetServer (UNS) $10 a month and $95 yearly unlimited deals are both a great value.   They offer unlimited downloads and uncapped speeds, free SSL and news servers located in the US and Europe.  Along with free Usenet search (UNS Global Search).  All for just $10 a month or $95 a year for our visitors.  Visit the UseNetServer special page and enjoy the savings!

NewsDemon – Unlimited Usenet + Client + Storage for $9.99

The NewsDemon Demon Deal includes a ton of extra features.  They start with unlimited Usenet access and then add a free copy of News Rover newsreader and 30 GB of online storage for just $9.99 a month.  Visit the NewsDemon special page to save 50% off their most popular account.

As you can see $10 goes a long way these days.  Not to knock services like Easynews and Giganews as each has premium features like web & mobile access (Easynews) and personal VPN (Giganews).  Yet we’re more than happy to stick with quality services like Newshosting, UseNetServer, NewsDemon and a few others that offer a good balance of service, support and features for an even better price of $10 or less a month.
