It looks like theCubeNet team is almost giving away 25 GB blocks in a new promotion that has taken off on Slickdeals today.  We’re not sure how long the deal will last but right now you can sign up for 25 GB block accounts for just $1.29.  For comparison their regular price is $6.99 for the account.  According to Slickdeals you can sign up for multiple blocks.  Even if you already have an unlimited plan this could compliment it well.

theCubeNet November Promotions

When we viewed theCubeNet promotions page there were several discounts listed along with the number of accounts left for each offer.  Here’s what they had available when we viewed theCubeNet deals:

  • Unlimited 50 connections – $7.99 to $9.99 a month based on term
  • Metered 250 GB a month – $7.99 a month
  • Metered 125 GB a month – $6.99 a month

  • They were sold out of 100 GB blocks for $7.99

If you haven’t tried theCubeNet yet then this is a good time to check out the service.  Their unlimited specials are a 3 month minimum sign up but you could always test their servers with the 60 GB plan and then upgrade in the future.  Having tested theCubeNet in the past though I think you’ll be pleased with the service.

theCubeNet supports around 1,500 days of binary retention.  Along with free SSL encryption for all customers.  They offer members 50 connections with all plans except the Unlimited 10 which costs a bit less for 10 connections.  For those without high speed connections the Unlimited 10 plan could be a good fit.

theCubeNet Review : Unlimited & Block Usenet Access

Earlier this month theCubeNet launched.  Offering unlimited and speed limited Usenet access.  With monthly, quarterly and yearly plans.  In addition to a selection of non-expiring block Usenet accounts.  The speed metered plan is capped at 5 Mbits per second.  With high retention, free 256-bit SSL encryption, 50 connections and news servers in the US and Europe.  Term discounts bring the price down to $7.88/mo. on annual plans.

theCubeNet Review:

As with any new Usenet provider, theCubeNet will have to leap over some hurdles to get started.  Then  innovate as they grow to keep up with the competition.  Without the strong branding and name recognition of leading Usenet services like UseNetServer, Astraweb and NewsDemon, theCubeNet will need to make their mark on the industry.  A goal that is definitely achievable with the right mix of features and value.

Conclusion

We’re impressed by the wide assortment of Usenet plans offered by theCubeNet.  Most providers have unlimited and metered accounts at launch.  While theCubeNet seems very in tune with the market.  Offering unlimited Usenet with term discounts.  Along with a speed capped plan and non-expiring blocks.  As with any new service questions remain.  How will they perform over time?  Can you expect the same reliable service and responsive tech support that the larger providers offer?  Time will tell but we wish theCubeNet team the best.
